Kisco, 1 Holiday Inn Drive, Mount Kisco, New York. The panel will be discussing various issues including The Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust and ERISA and Qualified Plan Benefits.
  • Michael H. Friedman will be a panelist at the Trusts & Estates Section and Elder Law Committee CLE presented by the Westchester County Bar Association on October 4, 2011, held at Willow Tower, 355 Pelham Road, New Rochelle, New York. The panel will be discussing "What Every Trusts & Estates & Guardianship Attorney Should Know About Applications for Legal Fees.

  • Susan Slater-Jansen spoke at the Westchester Estate, Tax & Finnacial Planning Conference, on IRAs and Roth IRAs: Changes Under the New Tax Laws. The conference was held at the Westchester Marriott Hotel, on May 19, 2011.
  • Michael Weitzner spoke at Westchester Women's Bar Association meeting being held at BNY Wealth management, 701 Westchester Aveneu, White Plains, New York, on May, 10. 2011. The program is entitled "Getting it Right the First Time: Choosing the Appropriate Business Entity."
  • On May 3, 2011, Lynn J. Maier was a panelist speaking on “The Role of the Review or Consulting Attorney in a Divorce/Family Mediation”. The program was sponsored by the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association. The panel discussed the relationship of the attorney and client during the mediation process, as well as the role of the attorney at different stages of a mediation.

  • On January 27, 2011, Lynn J. Maier gave a lecture in White Plains, New York to the NYS Parent Education and Awareness (PEACE) Program, an initiative to make quality parent education available across the state.

    The lecture concentrated on legal issues of custody and visitation, and included a discussion of the court process and the factors considered by a court in making a determination of custody in the “best interests of the child.” Alternative dispute resolution techniques - mediation and collaborative law- were also presented as options for parents in establishing a co-parenting schedule.

  • Lynn Maier spoke at the PEACE program sponsored by the 9th Judicial District for parents involved in custody litigation. Ms. Maier discussed how judges make custody determinations, definition of custody, joint custody, visitation and split custody. She also discussed the process choices, i.e. negotiation mediation, collaborative litigation the pros and cons.
  • Michael Weitzner spoke on September 29, 2010 at the New York City Bar CLE seminar “Bridge the Gap”. Mr. Weitzner spoke with Andrew Karlen on Choice of Entity and Structures for Ownership and Management regarding Tax Issues in Choice of Business Entitles.
  • Michael H. Friedman spoke at Calvary Hospital Seventh Annual Trusts & Estates Conference being held at the Roosevelt Hotel on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. The topic will be “Ethical Consideration for the Estate Practitioner When Dealing with Incapacitated Persons”.

  • On June 17 and 18, 2010, Susan Slater-Jansen gave presentations regarding the Protection of Inherited IRAs to the Asset Protection Committee and Employee Benefits Committee of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC) in St. Louis, Mo.
  • On June 7, Michael H. Friedman spoke at a Westchester County Bar Association seminar entitled "Select Issues in Fiduciary Liability", which was held at the Hudson Valley Bank.
  • Jessica Galligan Goldsmith spoke on Estate Planning and Business Succession Planning at a program sponsored by Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

  • On May 27, Susan Slater-Jansen spoke at the UJA-Federation of New York Westchester Estate, Tax & Financial Planning Conference, which was held at the Westchester Marriott Hotel. Susan's presentation was entitled "Roth IRAs: With All the Hype, Do I Really Benefit?"
  • On May 17, 2010, Litigation Partner Fred D. Weinstein spoke at the FAE/BVR Business Valuation Conference, sponsored by the New York State Society of CPAs and held in New York City at the Marriott Marquis Times Square. The topic of the conference was "Current Issues in New York Fair Value Shareholder Proceedings", with the focus on discounts for lack of marketability and built-in capital gains and, in particular, the Jamaica Acquisition Bus Company case in which Mr. Weinstein successfully acted as lead trial counsel for the dissenting shareholders. Mr. Weinstein was joined by The Honorable Ira B. Warshawsky, Justice of the Commercial Division, Nassau County Supreme Court, and attorneys Peter Mahler, the moderator of the program, and Michael Amato. The program, designed for business valuation and litigation support professionals, was also webcast live.
  • Joel S. Lever was a featured speaker in the New York State Bar Association seminar "Paying Partners What They’re Worth: Alternatives for Law Firms."
  • Michael Weitzner spoke on the Tax Considerations in the Choice of Business Entitysponsored by the Corporarte and Commercial Law Committee of the Westchester County Bar Association. The program "Choice of Entity and Aligning Governance and Management Structures with Your Client's Business Objectives" covered the process of choosing the correct form of entity from the taxation and limited liability perspectives and then aligning governance and management structures with clients’ business objectives
